"Scientists have known for some time that moderate alcohol consumption (defined as 1-2 drinks per day) is associated with a reduced risk of heart disease. Those who consumed the equivalent of 1-2 drinks a day were 30% less likely to gain weight compared to nondrinkers. These results are likely due to the fact that women who drink often eat less.
